If you live in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ or in a surrounding neighborhood, swing by Riverbank Park for a beginner friendly yoga class starting July 8, 2022.
I started teaching yoga classes in the park last year because the studio I was teaching at closed, and all of the other classes that I was teaching were virtual. I was starting to feel disconnected from my students and my community. That was when I decided that I needed to teach an in-person class. A park was spacious enough to allow all participants to socially distance while still practicing together. It was a wonderful experience.
This summer's yoga class will be taught in Riverbank Park outside of the Fieldhouse on Friday mornings at 9:00am. This class will be donation based with a suggested donation of $15, but no one is ever turned away. If there is inclement weather, class will be canceled for the day. You are welcome to join one of my online classes or my Sunday morning class at Alternative Health Club.
Levels: This is a beginner-friendly class for all ages and abilities. Modifications will be provided as needed. Students are encouraged to practice at their own pace and to listen to their bodies. If you're in a pose and something doesn't feel right or you're experiencing discomfort, come out of it immediately. There's nothing wrong with skipping an exercise and taking Child's Pose.
Equipment/Props: Please bring your own mat to use. You're welcome to bring yoga blocks, a towel, a yoga strap, etc in order to enhance your practice. If you're not sure how to use a prop, bring it to class, and I will teach you how to use it.
Class Structure: We start class with centering and focusing on the breath followed by warm-ups, prep poses, a yoga flow, cool down, and rest/relaxation.
Note: Please bring water to class. Hydration is very important, especially when you're exercising and it's warm outside.
